Why I Chose This Path: My Story

One of the most common questions I get asked is, “What made you want to become an esthetician?”

The truth is, my journey started with my own skin struggles. I battled acne for years—and still experience occasional flare-ups. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated, to try every product under the sun, and to feel like your skin is working against you. That experience shaped me. It made me want to be the kind of professional I wish I had back then—someone who truly understands, who cares deeply, and who educates with empathy, not judgment.

I knew I wanted to be an esthetician as far back as 2013—long before skincare was trending and before anyone really knew what an esthetician was. I remember having to explain it over and over again. My go-to line became, “It’s like a cosmetologist, but focused just on skin.”

When I told my high school counselor my plans, the first thing he did was Google how much estheticians made. He looked at me and said, “You know you won’t make a livable wage doing that, right?” He encouraged me to consider something more “practical.” And I’ll be honest—his words stuck with me more than I’d like to admit. For years, I went back and forth, questioning if I was making the right decision.

It wasn’t until 2018—five years later—that I finally gave myself permission to take it seriously. With the support of my now-husband and my dad, I was able to take a leap of faith. They believed in me when I wasn’t sure I believed in myself. They helped me take time off work and become a full-time student so I could finally pursue my esthetician license.

I wasn’t chasing a paycheck—I was chasing purpose. I wanted to help people feel good in their skin, the same way I wished someone could’ve helped me.

There were moments of doubt, moments I had to keep explaining what I wanted to do and why—but that passion never left me. And now, all these years later, I look back on that conversation with my counselor with a quiet fire in my heart. Someday, I hope to prove him wrong—not through number or titles, but through the lives I touch and the confidence I help restore.

Since then, I’ve spent years learning, experimenting, and refining what works. I pour that knowledge and care into every client I treat. Because for me, helping others feel confident in their skin isn’t just a job—it’s my calling.

After becoming a mom, I had a choice: fully devote myself to motherhood or carve out space to continue doing what I love. For my little family, choosing both has been the healthiest balance. I believe in self-care deeply—and for me, showing up for my passion is part of my own self-care. Whether I’m giving a soothing facial or glamming someone up for their big day, I’m pouring love into my craft—and that fills me up in a way that makes me a better mom, too.

As moms, we have to remember: self-care is not selfish. Whether that looks like a facial, a brow refresh, or having your makeup done for a special occasion—these moments matter. They’re not about vanity. They’re about honoring yourself. I’ll be honest—I’m not always the best at making time for those self-care services myself. Like many moms, I tend to put everyone else first. But for me, doing the work I love is also a form of self-care. Pouring into my clients, creating a calm space, and connecting with others fills my cup. That said, I’m learning to do better at slowing down and caring for myself, too—because we deserve to feel good, inside and out.

In the end, every service I provide is a win-win. My clients receive personalized care and the space to unwind and feel seen—and I get to keep doing what I love, while being fully present for my family.

This isn’t just a career for me. It’s something I genuinely love and enjoy every single day.
